Your nikah by our Qazi, the nikahnama, a nikah certificate and three sworn marriage affidavits attested at a Delhi court complex – a complete, consistent set of proof in one day.
Quick answer: For ₹7,000 our Qazi reads your nikah, we prepare the nikahnama and a nikah certificate, and both spouses swear three marriage affidavits (bride, groom and joint) before a notary or oath commissioner at a Delhi court complex, usually the same day. A "court affidavit" is a sworn statement attested at a court complex; it is not a court order and not a court marriage. It adds strong sworn evidence of age, marital status, free consent and the nikah, useful for HR, banks, landlords, police questions and government registration. You bring your own witnesses; we do not provide witnesses.

Most Muslim couples in Delhi leave their nikah with a nikahnama in hand and assume the paperwork is finished. For many, it is. But a surprising number come back months later because an employer's HR department, a bank, a landlord, a police station, an insurance company or a family member has questioned the marriage, and a nikahnama alone did not settle the question. This package is built for couples who want to avoid that. For ₹7,000 we read the nikah with our own Qazi, prepare the nikahnama and nikah certificate, and have both spouses swear marriage affidavits before an authorised officer at a Delhi court complex, so that you leave with a complete, consistent set of documents on the same day.
This page explains what each document is, what a "court affidavit" really means (and what it does not mean), what the affidavits say, where they are sworn, and when this package is worth the extra ₹2,000 over our basic nikah service.
The idea is simple. Every document in the set is prepared from the same checked facts, on the same day, by the same team. The Qazi's record, the certificate, the bride's affidavit, the groom's affidavit and the joint affidavit all carry the same spellings, the same dates, the same mahr and the same witnesses. When an office compares them, they agree. That agreement is what makes a set of marriage documents persuasive, and it is the thing couples most often lose when they collect papers piecemeal from different people over several weeks. It also means that, if you later register the marriage with the Delhi government or apply for a spouse visa, most of the groundwork is already done and does not need to be repeated or paid for twice.
| Item | What you get | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Nikah by our Qazi | Consent confirmed, khutba, ijab and qubool, dua | The marriage itself, performed correctly |
| Nikahnama | Full written contract signed by bride, groom, witnesses, wakil and Qazi | Primary record of the marriage and the mahr |
| Nikah certificate | One-page certificate with photographs, signed and sealed | Easy to show and copy for everyday use |
| Individual affidavit of the bride | Sworn statement of her age, marital status, religion, free consent and the nikah | Her own sworn record, independent of anyone else |
| Individual affidavit of the groom | Sworn statement of his age, marital status, religion, consent and the nikah | Confirms he was free to marry and disclosed his status |
| Joint marriage affidavit | Both spouses declare the date and place of nikah, mahr and witnesses | One document that ties everything together |
| Drafting and attestation | We draft, print on e-stamp paper and arrange attestation by a notary or oath commissioner | Correct wording, correct stamp, correct officer |
| Certified set of copies | A clean set of copies of all documents | Ready for HR, bank, landlord or registration |
The e-stamp paper and the notary's or oath commissioner's fee are included in the package unless you ask for extra copies or additional affidavits. Government registration of the marriage is separate; it can be added through our registration service (₹6,000), and the affidavits prepared here make that application smoother.
The phrase "court affidavit" is used loosely in Delhi, and it causes confusion. Some couples think it means a judge has approved their marriage, or that they have had a "court marriage". Neither is true, and we will not let you leave thinking so.
So why bother? Because a sworn affidavit carries legal weight. Making a false statement in it is an offence under the law on false evidence, now in the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Offices and courts therefore treat a properly sworn affidavit as serious evidence, and when it matches the nikahnama and the certificate, the three documents reinforce one another.
These are the real situations in which our couples have needed the affidavits.
| Situation | What was questioned | How the affidavits helped |
|---|---|---|
| Adding a wife to company medical insurance | HR wanted proof beyond a "handwritten" nikahnama | The sworn affidavits and certificate were accepted until registration came through |
| Joint bank account or nominee change | The bank wanted the relationship confirmed | Joint affidavit with matching names and addresses |
| Renting a flat as a married couple | Landlord and society wanted proof of marriage | Certificate plus affidavit copies |
| Police verification or a complaint by a family | A relative alleged the marriage was forced or fake | Each spouse's sworn statement of free consent |
| A previous marriage in the background | Whether the earlier marriage had ended | The affidavit records the divorce or death, with the date |
| Government registration | The office asks for affidavits on age and status | Ready in the correct form, consistent with the nikahnama |
| Name spelt differently in documents | Whether the two names are the same person | A "one and the same person" declaration in the affidavit |
Every affidavit we draft is specific to the couple. A generic template, copied from the internet with blanks filled in, often contains statements that are not true for you, and a false statement in an affidavit is a problem for the person who swore it. These are the points each affidavit normally covers.
What we will not put in an affidavit: anything the person swearing it does not know to be true, a false date of birth, a false marital status, a claim that a conversion took place when it did not, or a statement that the marriage was performed under a law it was not performed under. If your documents do not support a statement, we will tell you what document you need instead.
Which officer is right depends on where the affidavit will be used. For HR departments, banks and landlords, notarised affidavits are normally enough. For registration or court use, the office may prefer a particular form. We check before printing, not after.
Delhi's district courts sit in seven complexes. Couples can have affidavits sworn at whichever is convenient; the officer's jurisdiction does not depend on where the couple lives.
| Court complex | Convenient for |
|---|---|
| Karkardooma Courts | East and North East Delhi: Seelampur, Jafrabad, Mustafabad, Shahdara, Laxmi Nagar, Mayur Vihar |
| Tis Hazari Courts | Old Delhi, Civil Lines, Sadar Bazar, Karol Bagh, North Delhi |
| Saket Courts | South and South East Delhi: Jamia Nagar, Okhla, Shaheen Bagh, Mehrauli, Sangam Vihar |
| Patiala House Courts | Central and New Delhi, Nizamuddin, Jangpura |
| Rouse Avenue Courts | Central Delhi, ITO, Daryaganj |
| Rohini Courts | North West and Outer Delhi |
| Dwarka Courts | South West and West Delhi |
Our office is close to Karkardooma, so couples from East and North East Delhi often finish the nikah and the affidavits within a few hours. For others we fix the most convenient complex.
The affidavits only have value if the nikah they describe is valid. Before our Qazi reads the nikah, he confirms the essentials of a valid Muslim marriage.
| Essential | What is checked |
|---|---|
| Capacity | Both are adults of sound mind: the bride at least 18 and the groom at least 21 under our rule, shown by age proof |
| Free consent | The bride and groom are each asked separately, in the presence of witnesses, whether they consent |
| No legal bar | Neither is within a prohibited relationship by blood, marriage or fosterage; the bride is not married to anyone else or in iddat |
| Offer and acceptance | Made at one sitting, clearly, with the names and mahr |
| Witnesses | For Sunnis, two adult Muslim men, or one man and two women, present and hearing the offer and acceptance |
| Mahr | Agreed and recorded, prompt or deferred |
If any of these is missing, no affidavit can cure it. That is why the order matters: first a correct nikah, then documents that accurately describe it. Couples from different sects, or where one partner has been married before, should tell us in advance so that the Qazi can prepare.
Different institutions have different habits. This is what we have seen in practice in Delhi; each institution's current policy can change, so ask them too.
| Institution | Usually accepts | Usually insists on |
|---|---|---|
| Private employer HR (insurance, leave) | Nikah certificate with affidavit | Sometimes a government certificate within a set period |
| Banks (joint account, nominee) | Certificate and affidavit, with KYC of both | Varies by bank and branch |
| Housing societies and landlords | Certificate or affidavit copies | Rarely more |
| Insurance companies (claims) | Registered certificate is preferred | Proof of relationship consistent with the policy records |
| Passport office | — | Registered marriage certificate, or the prescribed annexure in some cases |
| Embassies and visa authorities | — | Government-registered certificate, often apostilled |
| Police (in a family complaint) | Sworn affidavits of age and consent, nikahnama | Proof of age above all |
| Family courts | Nikahnama, affidavits and witnesses' evidence | Witnesses who can be produced |
The pattern is clear. For everyday private use, this package is usually enough on its own. For the state and for foreign governments, a government-registered certificate is what counts, and this package is the foundation for it.
The bride's affidavit records the date and form of the earlier divorce, whether talaq, khula, mubarat or a court decree under the Dissolution of Muslim Marriages Act, 1939, and that her iddat had ended before the nikah. An instant triple talaq is void under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019; a woman whose only "divorce" was an instant triple talaq is still married and must obtain a valid dissolution before remarrying.
The affidavit records the date of the former spouse's death and, for a widow, that her iddat of four months and ten days had ended. The death certificate is attached or referred to.
The nikahnama and affidavits can record the tradition of each spouse. Our Qazi reads the nikah so that it satisfies both, for example with two male witnesses present.
Muslim law allows first cousins to marry. The affidavit states that the parties are not within a prohibited relationship, which is true for cousins; it would not be true for an uncle and niece.
If one spouse has genuinely converted, the affidavit can mention it with the conversion document. We will not describe a conversion that did not happen, and where a conversion is only for the marriage we explain the risks and the alternative of the Special Marriage Act.
Where the groom already has a wife, his affidavit says so and that he disclosed it to the bride. Government employees should check their conduct rules before any second marriage.
The whole process usually takes half a day. If the couple prefers, the affidavits can be sworn the following working day; the date of swearing does not need to be the date of the nikah, as long as the contents are accurate.
| Document | Who | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Age proof (Class 10 certificate, birth certificate or passport) | Bride and groom | Nikahnama and affidavits |
| Photo ID (Aadhaar, voter ID, passport, driving licence) | Bride, groom, witnesses, wakil | Identity before the Qazi and the notary |
| Address proof | Bride and groom | Addresses in the nikahnama and affidavits |
| Passport photographs (six each) | Bride and groom | Certificate and affidavits |
| Divorce document or decree | If divorced | Recorded in the affidavit |
| Death certificate of former spouse | If widowed | Recorded in the affidavit |
| Joint photograph of the couple | Couple | Joint affidavit |
The value of this package lies in the documents agreeing with one another and with your identity documents. Offices reject papers far more often for inconsistency than for anything else. Before anything is printed, we check:
Where a document already has a different spelling, the affidavit records that both spellings refer to the same person. That single paragraph has saved many couples a trip back to the passport office.
For a Sunni nikah you need two adult Muslim male witnesses, or one man and two women, who know you. Their names and addresses go into the nikahnama and the joint affidavit. We do not provide witnesses. Bring people who can be found later, because a witness who cannot be traced adds nothing if the marriage is ever questioned, and many registration offices require the witnesses to attend the registration appointment as well.
The Delhi (Compulsory Registration of Marriage) Order, 2014 requires marriages performed in Delhi to be registered, and registration offices ask for affidavits on age, marital status and the marriage itself. The affidavits in this package are drafted so they can be used for registration too. After the Delhi High Court's directions in 2024 that Muslim marriages should be registrable online under the 2014 Order, we check which route the portal and office currently offer before applying, and we do not register a nikah under the Special Marriage Act without explaining that it changes the law of succession for the couple.
If you want the government certificate as well, choose our registration service; we reuse the same documents so you do not pay twice for the same work.
When a couple marries against the wishes of one family, the affidavits play a special role. Each spouse's sworn statement that they are an adult, that they married of their own free will, and that no one forced or induced them, is exactly what a police officer or a court looks for first. We often prepare an additional short affidavit for each spouse stating that they do not wish to have contact with the objecting relatives and that any complaint of abduction is false.
If you are in this situation, also read our Muslim love marriage page. It explains Delhi's safeguards for couples, including the police special cells, the 181 women's helpline, safe houses under the Delhi government's standard operating procedure, and High Court protection petitions.

Mahr is often the first thing disputed if a marriage breaks down, and the nikahnama is where it is proved. We record it in a way that leaves no room for argument.
The wife's right to mahr is independent of her right to maintenance. In July 2024, in Mohd. Abdul Samad v. State of Telangana, the Supreme Court confirmed that a Muslim woman, including a divorced woman, can also seek maintenance under the general maintenance law. Clear documents make both rights easier to enforce.
Couples come to us for this package from Jamia Nagar, Batla House, Zakir Nagar, Shaheen Bagh and Okhla; from Old Delhi's Jama Masjid, Ballimaran, Chitli Qabar, Matia Mahal and Turkman Gate; from Nizamuddin, Jangpura and Bhogal; from Seelampur, Jafrabad, Welcome, Mustafabad, Chand Bagh and Brijpuri in the North East; from Sadar Bazar, Quraish Nagar, Kishan Ganj and Inderlok; and from Mehrauli, Sangam Vihar, Rohini and Dwarka. Many are professionals working in Noida and Gurugram who need the documents for their employers within days of the nikah. Wherever you live, the documents are the same; only the most convenient court complex differs.
Couples often ask to see what they will be signing. Every affidavit is drafted for the couple, but the structure of a joint marriage affidavit is usually as follows. Words in square brackets are filled in from your documents.
JOINT AFFIDAVIT
We, [groom's full name], son of [father's name], aged [age] years, resident of [address], and [bride's full name], daughter of [father's name], aged [age] years, resident of [address], do hereby solemnly affirm and declare as under:
Verification: Verified at Delhi on [date] that the contents of this affidavit are true and correct to our knowledge and belief, and nothing material has been concealed.
[Signatures of both deponents] · [Attestation of notary / oath commissioner]
Each spouse's individual affidavit follows the same pattern but covers only that person's facts. You read the draft before the day and tell us about any change; nothing is printed on stamp paper until you have approved it.
The Delhi (Compulsory Registration of Marriage) Order, 2014 applies to every marriage performed in Delhi, including a nikah. It expects registration within sixty days of the marriage. A further sixty days is allowed on payment of a small late fee, and after that a penalty applies. Late registration remains possible; the marriage does not become invalid because it was registered late. What changes is convenience: couples who register promptly avoid the explanations and extra affidavits that a late application needs.
| Time since the nikah | Position | What to prepare |
|---|---|---|
| Within 60 days | Normal registration | Nikahnama, affidavits, ID, age proof, witnesses |
| 61 to 120 days | Registration with a late fee | As above, with the late fee |
| After 120 days | Registration with a penalty | As above, often with an affidavit explaining the delay |
| Years later | Still possible | Strong evidence of the nikah; witnesses who can be traced |
Because the Delhi portal historically offered only Hindu Marriage Act and Special Marriage Act options, the Delhi High Court in 2024 directed the government to make online registration of Muslim marriages under the 2014 Order available. We check the current position at the time you apply, and choose the route that keeps your marriage under Muslim personal law unless you deliberately want otherwise.

| Nikah | The marriage contract under Muslim law, completed by offer and acceptance |

| Ijab and qubool | Offer and acceptance |

| Mu'ajjal / mu'wajjal | Prompt mahr, payable on demand / deferred mahr, payable on divorce or death |

Yes. Nothing in law requires you to use a service. Any Qazi can read a nikah, and any notary can attest an affidavit you draft yourself. Couples who choose us do so for three reasons.
If you would rather do it yourselves, the key rules are simple: use your correct names and dates, record the mahr precisely, choose witnesses who know you, swear only what is true, and register the marriage within sixty days.
Many couples live in Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad or Gurugram, or have come to Delhi from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Kashmir, West Bengal or elsewhere. The nikah and affidavits can be done in Delhi regardless of where you live. For government registration, the Delhi office needs a Delhi connection: the nikah performed in Delhi, or a Delhi residence of either spouse. Couples from states with conversion laws, such as Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Haryana, who are of different religions should speak to us before any nikah, because the Special Marriage Act is usually the safer path for them.
We are sometimes asked to write a different date of birth, to leave out an earlier marriage, or to describe a Hindu–Muslim couple as both Muslim when one of them has not converted. We refuse, and you should refuse anyone who offers to do it. A false affidavit is not a shortcut. It is an offence, it can void the benefit you were trying to obtain, and it gives any hostile relative a weapon. If the truth creates a legal problem, the answer is to solve that problem: a delayed birth certificate, a proper divorce, or the Special Marriage Act for an interfaith couple.
A Gurugram software engineer from Batla House had his nikah in Delhi and needed his wife on the company health policy within the enrolment window. HR would not accept the nikahnama alone. With our certificate and the sworn joint affidavit, she was enrolled the same week; the government certificate followed later.
A newly married couple renting in Mayur Vihar were asked by the society office for proof of marriage. The certificate and affidavits settled the matter in one visit.
A couple from Jafrabad married against the wishes of the bride's uncle, who then went to the police claiming she had been taken away. Her sworn affidavit, made the day of the nikah, stating her age, her free consent and her wish to live with her husband, was the first document the police examined. The complaint went no further.
A groom from Old Delhi had "Mohd." in his school certificate, "Mohammad" in Aadhaar and "Muhammad" in his passport. His affidavit recorded all three as the same person, and his wife's passport was later updated without a query.
We read the nikah through our own Qazi, draft affidavits specific to your facts rather than from a template, make sure every name, date and amount matches, and arrange attestation at a Delhi court complex, so you leave with a complete and consistent set of marriage documents the same day. Everything is confidential. We do not provide witnesses, and we do not draft affidavits containing statements we know to be untrue.
