Sometimes a nikah cannot wait. The groom's flight to Riyadh is on Thursday. The bride's grandmother is in hospital and wants to see the nikah. A job offer abroad needs a married status by the end of the month. The families have agreed at last and do not want to give anyone time to change their minds. A couple who have been waiting for years suddenly have a window of one day. For these situations we offer an urgent, same-day nikah for ₹7,000: priority document checking, a Qazi arranged at short notice, and the nikahnama and certificate in your hands the same day.

Urgent does not mean careless. A nikah read in a hurry, without checking the documents, with witnesses who cannot be found later or a mahr nobody wrote down, causes far more trouble than a day's delay. This page explains what we can do in a few hours, what we cannot, what you must have ready, and the situations in which we will slow down even if you ask us to hurry.

Over the years we have learned that most urgent nikahs fall into a handful of patterns, and that the families who get through the day smoothly are those who know in advance what the Qazi will ask for. What "Same Day" Means

If you call in the morning with complete documents and your witnesses are available, the nikah is usually read the same afternoon or evening. If you call in the evening, it may be the next morning. We always tell you the realistic time before you pay.

Why Couples Need an Urgent Nikah

What You Must Have Ready

Speed depends almost entirely on how ready you are. Before calling, check that you have:

1. Age proof for both: Class 10 certificate, birth certificate or passport. Aadhaar alone is not reliable age proof.
2. Photo ID for both: Aadhaar, voter ID, passport or driving licence.
3. Address proof for both.
4. Four passport photographs each. Phone photographs against a plain wall can be printed nearby if needed.
5. Proof of any earlier marriage ending: divorce document or decree, or the former spouse's death certificate. For a woman, her iddat must have ended.
6. Two witnesses available at the time, with ID. For a Sunni nikah, two adult Muslim men, or one man and two women, who know you. We do not provide witnesses.
7. The mahr decided: the amount, and whether prompt, deferred or both.
8. Exact spellings of both names and fathers' names as in your main documents.

If any of these is missing, tell us immediately. Some gaps can be solved in hours; others, like an earlier marriage that was never properly ended, cannot be solved by speed at all.

A Typical Urgent Day

What We Never Rush

We move fast on paperwork. We do not move fast on the things that make a nikah valid and safe.

• Consent: the Qazi confirms the bride's and groom's consent separately, every time. Urgency sometimes comes from family pressure; if either partner seems unwilling, we stop.
• Age: the bride must be at least 18 and the groom at least 21, shown by reliable documents. No exception for urgency.
• Freedom to marry: no nikah for a woman in iddat, a woman whose earlier marriage has not been validly ended, or a man concealing an existing marriage.
• Prohibited relationships: checked before the nikah, not after.
• Witnesses: real witnesses who know you, whose names and addresses go into the nikahnama.

If a family wants a nikah today because it fears the bride will change her mind tomorrow, that is not an urgency we serve.

Nikah at a Hospital or at Home

When the reason for urgency is a seriously ill relative, families sometimes want the nikah read near them. It can be done wherever the families choose, with some care:

• Ask the hospital's permission for a small gathering and keep the number of people low.
• The bride and groom must both be present and able to consent. If the patient is the bride or groom, they must be conscious, of sound mind and able to understand and consent freely; we do not read a nikah for someone who cannot.
• Witnesses must be present and able to hear the offer and acceptance.
• The nikahnama is signed at the bedside or nearby; the certificate is handed over there.

Nikah Before Going Abroad

This is the most common urgent situation, and the one where expectations most need managing. A nikahnama read today proves the nikah, but most foreign governments want a government-registered marriage certificate, and many want it apostilled by India's Ministry of External Affairs, which requires prior authentication by the state government. That takes time.

1. Have the nikah now, with complete and correct documents.
2. Start government registration immediately under the Delhi (Compulsory Registration of Marriage) Order, 2014. After the Delhi High Court's 2024 directions, we check the current route for registering a nikah and use it.
3. If the spouse leaving cannot attend the registration appointment, find out before they leave whether the office will allow an alternative; usually both spouses must appear, so register before departure if at all possible.
4. Once registered, apply for attestation or apostille as the destination country requires.

Timing: Ramadan, Muharram, Eid and Fridays

Families often choose the date of a nikah with the Islamic calendar in mind, and urgent bookings cluster around certain times of year.

These are customs, not legal rules. A nikah read on any day is valid if the essentials are met.

Urgent Remarriage After Divorce or Widowhood

Urgency sometimes arises in second marriages: a widower who needs someone to care for young children, or a divorced couple who want to remarry each other. The law sets waiting periods that speed cannot shorten.

When the Urgency Is a Pregnancy

We are sometimes called by couples who want to marry quickly because the woman is pregnant. We treat this with complete confidentiality and without judgment, and we apply the same rules as for any nikah:

• Both must be adults: the woman at least 18 and the man at least 21. If the woman is under 18, we cannot perform the nikah, and the situation needs other help, not a marriage.
• Both must consent freely. A pregnancy is not a reason to pressure anyone into marriage.
• The woman must be free to marry: not married to anyone else and not in iddat from an earlier marriage. A divorced or widowed woman's iddat lasts until delivery if she is pregnant.

Where these conditions are met, the nikah can be read as quickly as any other urgent nikah.

The Nikah Itself: Short but Complete

An urgent nikah contains every element of a full one. Only the waiting is removed.

1. Documents seen: the Qazi checks the originals against the photographs you sent.
2. Consent: the bride is asked, before witnesses, whether she accepts the groom for the stated mahr; the groom likewise. In many families the bride's consent is carried by a wakil; the Qazi still hears it from her first.
3. Khutba: the sermon of nikah is recited.
4. Ijab and qubool: the offer and acceptance, in the presence of the witnesses.
5. Signatures: bride, groom, witnesses, wakil if any, and Qazi sign the nikahnama.
6. Dua: prayers for the couple.
7. Certificate: handed over with the nikahnama.

For Shia couples the Qazi follows Shia practice, including the Arabic formula. For Sunni–Shia couples, we meet the stricter requirement on each point, such as having two male witnesses.

Deciding the Mahr in a Hurry

The one thing families most often leave to the last minute is the mahr, and a hurried decision can cause years of resentment. Decide it before the nikah, not in front of the guests.

• Choose an amount the groom can honour.
• Decide whether it is prompt (payable on demand), deferred (payable on divorce or death), or split.
• If any prompt mahr will be paid on the day, have it ready: cash, gold or a bank transfer.
• We write it in figures and words, with the split, so there is no argument later.

Mahr belongs to the wife. It is not dowry; demanding dowry is an offence under the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961, for every community.

After the Urgent Nikah

Registering a nikah under the Special Marriage Act changes the law of succession for the couple, so we check the route for registering under the 2014 Order and explain before applying.

Mistakes Made in a Hurry

1. Using Aadhaar as age proof and discovering at registration that the office wants something else.
2. Spelling a name differently from the passport, then struggling with the visa.
3. Bringing a stranger as a witness because the relative could not come.
4. Leaving the mahr as "as per Shariat" with no amount.
5. A woman remarrying before her iddat ended.
6. Remarrying after an instant triple talaq, which is void.
7. Believing the nikahnama will be enough for a spouse visa.
8. The spouse leaving India before the registration appointment.

Four Urgent Nikahs

The Riyadh flight

A groom from Seelampur had a flight to Riyadh on Thursday night. The families agreed on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning the couple sent documents; the nikah was read at 5 pm with both fathers as witnesses. Registration was started the next morning, and the appointment was secured before he left.

The grandmother

A bride's grandmother, admitted to a hospital in Okhla, wanted to see her granddaughter's nikah. With the hospital's permission, the nikah was read in the waiting area with eight family members. The grandmother gave her blessing and the certificate was handed over there.

The sudden agreement

After years of refusal, a bride's family in Old Delhi agreed to the match on a Sunday afternoon and asked for the nikah that evening, before anyone could object. Documents were checked by 5 pm and the nikah read after Maghrib.

The one we slowed down

A family called for an urgent nikah for their daughter. On the phone she sounded hesitant, and her age proof showed she was 17. We declined, and explained why. No urgency justifies that.

Nikah Now, Rukhsati Later

In many Delhi families the nikah and the rukhsati (the bride's formal departure to her husband's home) are separate events, sometimes months apart. An urgent nikah often follows this pattern: the nikah is read now because of a flight, an illness or a family decision, and the rukhsati and walima follow later with the full celebration.

Families sometimes ask whether the couple are "really" married before the rukhsati. In law, yes. The marriage is complete at the nikah. From that moment:

• The wife is entitled to her prompt mahr on demand, and the deferred mahr is fixed.
• Each spouse has the status of husband or wife for inheritance under Muslim law.
• If the marriage ends before the couple have lived together, the law on mahr and iddat has special rules (for example, a divorce before consummation or valid retirement generally entitles the wife to half the specified mahr, and no iddat is required in that case under Sunni law). Take advice if this arises.
• The marriage should be registered under the Delhi 2014 Order within sixty days of the nikah, not of the rukhsati.

Families sometimes delay registration until after the rukhsati. We advise against it, especially where the groom is travelling abroad, because the registration appointment usually needs both spouses.

Last-Minute Document Problems and Quick Fixes

Who Does What on the Day

• The bride: gives her consent to the Qazi herself, or through a wakil after the Qazi has heard it; signs the nikahnama.
• The groom: accepts the nikah in his own words; signs; pays any prompt mahr agreed for the day.
• The wakil (if any): conveys the bride's consent; signs.
• The witnesses: are present throughout the offer and acceptance; sign with their addresses.
• The families: arrange the place, a quiet space for the bride if she prefers, and something sweet for the guests. Keep the gathering small if time is short.
• Our Qazi: checks documents, confirms consent, reads the khutba and the nikah, completes and signs the nikahnama, and hands over the certificate.

Urgent Nikahs for Gulf Jobs

A large share of our urgent nikahs involve a groom working, or about to work, in Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman or Bahrain. Many hope to take their wife on a family visa. It is worth understanding the paperwork before the nikah, because a few decisions made on the day save months later.

• Names: the names in the nikahnama should match the passports exactly, including the order of names. Gulf authorities compare them closely.
• A government certificate: family visas generally need a government-issued marriage certificate, not only a nikahnama. Register the nikah as soon as possible.
• Authentication: India's Ministry of External Affairs apostilles documents for countries that are parties to the Hague Apostille Convention. Countries that are not parties require attestation by the MEA and then by their embassy. Requirements differ from country to country and change; check the embassy's current rules.
• State authentication first: before the MEA acts, a Delhi government certificate normally needs authentication by the Delhi government.
• Both spouses at registration: usually both must attend the registration appointment, so book it before the groom flies.
• The employer's own requirements: some employers have salary or job-category conditions for family visas. Check with the employer before promising the bride's family a quick move.

Evening and Night Nikahs

Many urgent nikahs are read after Maghrib or Isha, when relatives have finished work. That is perfectly acceptable. Two practical points: notaries and court complexes close in the afternoon, so affidavits, if you want them, will be sworn the next court working day; and government offices are closed, so registration starts the next working day. The nikah, nikahnama and certificate are complete that night.

Urgent Nikah or Standard Nikah?

If your date is two or three days away, the standard service is usually enough, and we will tell you so.

Registering an Urgent Nikah: The Steps

The Delhi (Compulsory Registration of Marriage) Order, 2014 applies to every marriage performed in Delhi, including a nikah. For years the online portal offered only Hindu Marriage Act and Special Marriage Act options, and the Delhi High Court, in Faizan Ayubi v. GNCTD, directed in 2024 that Muslim marriages be registrable online under the 2014 Order. Here is how we approach registration after an urgent nikah:

1. The next working day: we check the route the portal and registration office currently offer for a nikah, and prepare the application.
2. Documents uploaded: the nikahnama, IDs, age proof, address proof, photographs and any affidavits required.
3. Appointment: both spouses and, usually, witnesses attend the registration office with originals on the allotted date.
4. Verification: the officer checks identities and documents.
5. Certificate: issued once approved, often downloadable.

Since 1 January 2026 Delhi has 13 revenue districts and 39 sub-divisions, and the portal allocates the office by address. We never register a nikah under the Special Marriage Act without first explaining that it moves succession to the Indian Succession Act. Our registration service is ₹6,000.

If the Spouse Has Already Left

Sometimes the nikah is read, the groom flies the next day, and registration has not been done. Options depend on the office and the destination country:

• Wait until the spouse's next visit and register then; late registration remains possible, with a late fee after sixty days.
• Ask whether the registration office will accept any alternative arrangement; practices vary, and usually both spouses must appear in person.
• Meanwhile, keep the nikahnama, certificate and affidavits safe; they are good evidence of the marriage.
• For the visa, check whether the destination country will accept any document other than a registered certificate; most will not.

The lesson: if a spouse is flying soon, register before they go whenever possible.

Our Promise on Urgent Nikahs

We will always tell you the truth about timing. If we cannot arrange the nikah today, we say so before you pay. If a document problem cannot be solved in hours, we say so. If the urgency is really pressure on the bride or groom, we will not proceed. Families have thanked us for slowing down as often as for speeding up.

Beware of "Instant Nikah Certificates"

Around some court complexes and in online advertisements, you will find people offering an "instant nikah certificate" in an hour, with witnesses supplied, any date you like, and a promise that it is "government approved". Couples who use them often come to us later with a document no office will accept, or one that creates legal trouble. Warning signs:

• They offer to supply witnesses. Hired witnesses who do not know you are worthless as evidence and are a sign that the rest is careless too.
• They will write any date. Backdating a nikahnama is creating a false record. It can void the benefit you wanted and expose you to prosecution.
• They do not check age proof. A service that does not ask for age proof will happily marry a minor, and its certificates are distrusted for that reason.
• They promise a government certificate the same day. Government registration takes an application and an appointment; no private person can issue it.
• They skip the bride's consent. If no one asks the bride, in front of witnesses, whether she consents, the nikah is open to challenge.
• They use a blank or pre-signed nikahnama. A nikahnama should be completed at the nikah and signed by everyone present.

When One Partner Is a Foreign National

We are sometimes asked for an urgent nikah where one partner is a citizen of another country, such as Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, the UK or a Gulf country. A nikah between two Muslims can be read if both are free to marry, but these cases are rarely suitable for same-day handling:

• The foreign partner must have a valid passport and be lawfully present in India.
• Registration offices usually want extra documents from a foreign partner, such as proof of single status from their embassy or home authorities, with translation.
• The marriage may need to be recognised in the partner's home country, which has its own rules.
• Marriage does not by itself change anyone's immigration status in India.

Nikah for a Partner With a Disability or Illness

A person with a physical disability or a chronic illness can marry like anyone else. What matters is that they understand the nikah and consent freely. We adapt the ceremony as needed: the nikah can be read where the person is most comfortable, a sign-language interpreter or a family member can help communication, and a person who cannot sign can use a thumb impression, attested by the witnesses. Where a person's capacity to understand and consent is in doubt, we do not proceed; that protects them above all.

What Your Nikahnama Will Record

Because an urgent nikahnama is often used within days for a job, a visa or an employer, it must be complete from the start. Ours records:

Relationships That Cannot Marry, However Urgent

Muslim law prohibits marriage between certain relatives, and a nikah between them is void. Check before calling us:

• Blood relations: mother, grandmother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, aunt, and their male equivalents for a woman.
• Relations by marriage: a wife's mother or grandmother; a wife's daughter where the marriage was consummated; a father's wife; a son's wife.
• Fosterage: relationships created by nursing, in the same way as blood relations, subject to recognised exceptions.
• Two sisters at once: a man cannot be married at the same time to two women related as sisters, or as aunt and niece.

First cousins may marry under Muslim law, and we read such nikahs.

A Note for Families Arranging an Urgent Nikah

When time is short, families naturally focus on arrangements: who will come, where everyone will sit, what food to serve. Please focus first on the four things that cannot be fixed later: the bride's free consent, the ages of both, the correct names and dates in the nikahnama, and witnesses who can be found again. Everything else can be improved at the walima.

Why an Urgent Nikah Should Always Be Followed by Registration

Urgent nikahs are usually tied to a purpose outside the family: a job, a visa, a hospital, an employer's deadline. Those purposes are almost always served by a government certificate rather than a nikahnama alone. A nikah read today and registered within the next few weeks gives you both: the religious and legal marriage now, and the official record soon after. A nikah read today and never registered leaves you with a strong private document and a gap that tends to appear at the worst moment, such as a visa interview, an insurance claim or a death in the family. Our advice is the same for every urgent couple: treat the nikah and the registration as one plan with two dates, and put the second date in the diary before the Qazi leaves.
